Extra-violent hangman. Why not?

Civil takes the hangman formula and gives it a violent twist- although I suppose hangman was somewhat violent to begin with. Now it’s just more entertaining.

No gameplay surprises here. You get a category, the number of blank spaces, and X guesses till your little stickman is dead. I say X because it changes from round to round. In Civil your guy is technically already hung (hanged?)- you just have to save him from brutal punishment. Before each round the game will randomly choose a method of death for you, with each one requiring a varying amount of hits to be fatal. For example, you’re gonna die much quicker from bazooka blasts than say, someone’s fists. The game tracks your already guessed letters for you, and thankfully doesn’t penalize you if you accidentally guess the same one twice. Missing a letter results in some sort of animation with the weapon of choice, which is where most of the entertainment comes from.

Graphics are nice, but they’re just stick figures. I only noticed two different backgrounds, daytime and evening time. The animations are nice though, with little details to notice as your stickman gets blown away. There’s a nice menu sound loop you can turn on and off, along with ambience when you concentrate on your puzzles. As far as options go you can also turn sound effects off/on, and limit the categories that the puzzles come from. Be warned though, the less categories to choose from the lower your score will be at the end.

There’s not a whole lot more to say here- if you like hangman then you’ll enjoy this game. That is of course unless you’re strictly opposed to violence. But c’mon, they’re just stick figures. You can play for high scores as expected, but be ready to face some random luck when it comes to the puzzles. As you can see in the screenshot above I had a puzzle with 15 blanks but only three guesses, because I got stuck with the bazooka. I would have liked a consistent guess count, with the ability to pick what kind of death weapon we get. Mixes it up a little though I suppose. Civil is the best hangman flash I’ve seen, but I don’t know if that’s saying too much.
