Rings

Like many other games in the genre, Rings gives us a simplistic puzzle game formula. However the concept is actually pretty fresh. At least, it feels that way to me. Rings is the kind of game I really get hooked on.
So in Rings, you have to stack rings. There are six available slots to work with, while the slot in the middle continuously dispenses rings to the other six. There are four sizes/colors of rings. Small rings will only stack on top of larger ones. The trick is that you must keep re-arranging the rings so that you 1)create stacks of them for points and 2) keep them out of the way of the ring dispenser. What makes it challenging is that there are always several ways to solve the problem. You might be able to shift some things around and make a partial stack, or a full one. Or you might simply need to store a tiny ring on top of a large one until another slot opens up.
The graphics are very simple and consist entirely of gradients, but you don’t really need anything more. Maybe some different style/color of rings as you progress would have looked cool but it’s not a big deal. No music either, but there’s a small selection of sfx to accompany your ring moving. Some ambience could have been nice though.
There’s not really much else to this game, besides arranging rings and playing for a high score. Maybe it’s just me, but I had plenty of fun just playing the regular game mode. Usually I tire of that kind of thing quickly but there’s just something about Rings. I hope you find it as intriguing as I did.
