A game genre that I’ve been seeing a lot of lately is the mouse avoider. Although there are some good ones, my favorite is still an older one that came before the rush. Short Circuit by PrettyMuchBryce is a very fast paced and visually appealing game.

The premise of Short Circuit is that you use the mouse to control a light bulb and must dodge asterisks that come at you with different speeds, motions, and patterns. You also get to hold your mouse button down to have the asterisks flee from you, but you only have a little bit of that and need to use it wisely as you can’t get it back.

One of the huge pluses to the game is that it is visually tied to its catchy music. The waves of asterisks move to the song that’s playing in the background. Also, the background and colors constantly change to the music. The change in the color of the background and objects is very cool, and at one point in the game some funky music notes spray out.

One of the things that bring this game down is its difficulty. It’s very hard to beat. There’s nothing wrong with a game that is very difficult, but this game could have easily had difficulty settings. They would have been extremely easy to implement because they could have simply been a few extra lives respectively to the difficulty level chosen. I think that would have added a lot to the game.

Something I found lacking in the game was the replay value. First off, the game seemed very short. Second, after you beat the game, there really isn’t any reason to play it again. The score system didn’t really seem too sound because all final scores were very similar, and there is no high score board to post your score on.

Overall, Short Circuit is an exciting and visually appealing game that will get you addicted until you beat it or become too frustrated to continue. Its catchy tune also adds to the experience.

I don't think he made it to be beatable or else the challenge will be gone and it won't be as addictive. Whoops!  Thanks Jess :)  I read it like 3 times but I always seem to be able to miss something :/ I just felt that a lot of people had the problem that it just seemed too hard.  I really don't see the downside to including difficulty levels if you're not going to have a high score board. A few people I know were never actually able to beat it.
