Leaves out several key features of slots

Not too many flash games out there try to simulate slot machines, and I think there’s good reason for that. There’s a lot of calculations involved in checking all of the slot lines. The biggest draw of slots is winning money, and that’s pretty much an impossibility with a flash game. ArmorSlots makes a good attempt at the format, but still falls too short.

Ok, so you can’t win money. That’s ok. But there are still other key factors that make a slot machine entertaining that this game misses out on. For one, people playing slot machines like to be entertained by animations. When you line up three swords for example, they should spin around, slash, do something. Also, there were no wildcard OR scatter bonus icons to be found. All you can do is match up similar pictures together for varying amounts of prize credits. The other draw of slot machines is the bonus game. Bonus games are what break up the tedium of spinning the reels over and over. And while they might have the same luck factors as the slots themselves, they at least provide a diversion and the illusion that you’ve ‘done something special.’ Lastly, if you’re going to make a slot machine where you can’t win money, you need to offer something as an incentive to keep playing. If you win a million credits in this game then that’s all you have, a million credits. There’s no prize room or shop to spend your credits on. Even simple things like pictures and artwork can make for good items to spend points on. Sadly, none of this is present.

ArmorSlots also features ‘Newgrounds Slots,’ and extra machine to play on. However, both machines look identical and offer near identical payouts. The only thing changed here are the reel icons themselves. Being able to match combinations on up to five lines is nice, but that should be expected in a game that revolves solely around slots. The graphics are all decent 3-d renders, and the game comes with a music jukebox up in the corner.

ArmorSlots is definitely a step in the right direction, but simply misses out on far too much to warrant any real fun. In the very least it needed some kind of ‘unlock shop’ so that players feel they have something to work towards. Pass this one by unless you’re a hardcore gambler, or just really like to watch numbers go up and down.
